I hold professional memberships with the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Creativity in Counseling (ACC), the Potomac Art Therapy Association (PATA), the Maryland Art Therapy Association (MATA), the Maryland Association for Counseling & Development (MACD), and the Society for the Arts in Healthcare (SAH). I have held several positions on the PATA board, including Program Chair, Secretary, Chapter Delegate, and President. I have also served on the Conference Program and Ethics Committees for AATA as well as Recorder for the Assembly of Chapters. In addition, I have served on the Certification Committee for the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) since 2005 and am its current Chair.
Experience and Theoretical Orientation
I have been providing individual and group art therapy services for children, adolescents, adults and their families since 1997, with previous experience since 1994 in a variety of practicum/internship settings. I have worked in psychoeducational, medical, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric, group home, recovery, home-based and residential treatment settings.
My general theoretical orientation is person-centered, using a strengths-based and integrative approach. I believe no single theory can effectively treat all of the different emotional, behavioral, and social needs of every individual. I use a variety of theories and techniques including, but not limited to, humanistic, behavioral, cognitive, developmental, systemic, and existential.
While I work with individuals who may have a wide range of needs, my area of special interest is working with children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events and are dealing with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties as a result.

“The expressive arts — movement, art, writing, sounding, music, meditation, and imagery — lead us into the unconscious. This often allows us to express
previously unknown facets of ourselves, thus bringing to light new information and awareness.”
